The dinosaur park was pretty fun – I must admit – even though I was unsure of it. I followed them in their Vicaribus all the way to Brookings, stopping off at waysides, parks, beaches, and even a dinosaur park. I'm getting better, but she had found some great places along the way to visit, so Heather became my new travel planner for the day.

You know me, I don't plan very well these days. When Heather and Nick, from Vicaribus, and I left Bandon, Heather had the entire rest of the Southern coast planned out. The trees along the coast have that heavy windblown look – you know the kind where the tops of the trees have been shaped by the wind and slant inland. The topography is also starting to look more and more like what I remember from California with fewer trees and more rocks. We experienced quite a bit of fog traveling through the southern region of Oregon, so it made for an exciting drive and magical pictures and footage for the video from Bandon to Brookings, Oregon. Nice place, though - very quiet and very dark :o) We did get some strong and cold morning winds coming down the valley headed towards the ocean but we walked around in it anyway.The Southern Oregon Coast drive was a perfect end to the entire Oregon coast road trip that I started in the latter part of August and ended in September for a total of three weeks. I wouldn’t venture out onto that rocky bar with a large trailer unless you have 4WD and - even then - I’d stay on the ‘roads’ which are more packed down.

Apparently the land portion (above the high water line) is private property and it IS posted NO TRESPASSING. I thought I posted a review - or a blog - about this place but not seeing either? A couple of squatters are drawing the attention of landowners in the area and enforcement of “no camping” has been stepped up. No charge to drive through *and* it’s the world’s smallest campground - maybe six spots? With a camp host? That has to be the easiest campground gig on the planet :o) If *I* were the host, I’d spend a little time wacking back the overhead jungle - just for something to do. North of Cape Blanco.Īlso, just north of Cape is on the right, the BLM lands, just north of the Sixes river is the road on the right.

There is Floras, which has free wifi and $16 a day. Can’t say eventually someone will make you move, though. Take gravel road left after second yellow fire hydrant. On Agnes, heading out from town go to mile mark 4 (Old Mill site on right and brush on left). Road is a bit bumpy but 35′ class A’s make it just fine. If you check it out you can see that RVs are there and most use it as a fishing spot. I’ve never been turned away for night camping but never been given permission by any agency either. 🙂ĭown the road (Agness Rd) there is what is called the Rogue River dirt area. Having spent the last three winters on the central and southern coast of Oregon, I can tell you YES you won’t get net out east of the coast. The cell service isn’t good enough for us to stay for the week. Here’s a link to the free boondocking area. Lobster Creek Campground is east of Gold Beach Oregon on Jerry’s Flat Road. The lady said that if we got stuck we would be on our own and her husband added that we better listen for the tsunami horns (even though we were ten miles from the coast).Īs we walked away, the camp host lady added “don’t tell anyone about it,” to which we smiled and thanked them for the information. The camp hosts didn’t seem very happy about it, but explained that we could camp past the sign for free.

We saw some “no camping” signs but figured we could at least pull over and have some lunch.Īfter we ate, we walked back up to the campground and asked the host if we could camp by the river. Past the boat ramp, it turns into a rocky cobble road where we saw a couple RV’s camping along the banks of the Rogue River. The road through campground continues to a boat ramp. It’s $10 a night and had one spot that could fit us. On Saturday, we went to check out the Lobster Creek Campground in the Rogue River-Siskiyou National Forest.
